Lets put it this way.
If you already have an H1B and are using your ead just as a back up, then no, you do not have to renew right away, you can re-apply as long as you have copies of your applied I-485 etc.
If you do not have an H1B but you also do not plan to work for a while (in the case of some dependants), then again, NO you do not need to renew right away.
However if the EAD is your PRIMARY document without which you cannot work, but you DO want to work, then YES you do want to renew it before the current ead expires.
My friend who is a contractor in the company where I am working, is right now on H1B. He is a very hard worker and cheerful fellow. My employer (among big5 tech companies in US) offered him fulltime position.
His EAD is going to be expired soon, as he is a july 07 filer. He is worried that if he joins my employer at this point, and if he doesn't get his EAD renewed in time, he would be in trouble.
He already sent papers for renew but haven't heard back. After six weeks, his current EAD will expire.

If you will work for a Canadian Company within US, then you need a US work visa (H-1B for example). However, in this process you will not satisfy the residency requirements for your Canadian PR. Please note that you need to live in Canada for at least 2 out of 5 year period to maintain the PR.

As it is near to impossible to get a H1 Transfer without a project, I would like to hold on for H1 Transfer for now. The irony in the current schizophrenic EB immigration policy is that, it is ironically the more talented, qualified and marketable and entrepreneural talent that is more likely to look at US immigration policy and call it a day. It is conversely the mediocre talent that would be inclined to "stick it out" and deal with all the crap.

Sorry Murali, I wasn't clear in my earlier post.
1. Your new "extended for 3-yrs" H1B can be trasferred to your new employer. Your new employer files for the transfer of this approved H1B and you can work for the new employer legally with no hassles.
2. Now regarding your green card, since your PD is not current and you haven't been able to apply for AOS yet (and thus, "AOS pending for 180 days" isn't relevant either), you will have to restart your GC process - PERM and then I-140 followed by I-485 (when PD is current). At the last stage, when you apply for I-485 (AOS), you can recapture your older PD (Feb 2008), but not before that.
3. If you wait till you are able to file your AOS and then 180 days after you do file it, and THEN move to a similar job, then you won't have to restart your GC process. Now, given the current visa bulletin, this is hard to predict and there are no guarantees your job offer will still be available at that time.
Hope this clarifies my earlier post - sorry for the confusion.

It's not easy to get a J-1 waiver, but with recent changes in the rule, by the time you finish your residency it will be easier. Its easy to get waiver in family practice or psychiatry. Its harder for Internal Medicine/pediatrics/Surgery and fellowships (except Geriatrics)
1) You can get a J-1 visa, but your husbands 140 has nothing to do with this. However, on the positive side, if by the time you complete your residency and donot have a J-1 waiver job and your husband is still maintaining his H-1B or has a GC, you can stay in the US and look for job, but not work. So it gives you more time to find waiver job.
From personal experience, it would be better to go home for two years, while your husband stays here and then you come back as GC and start your practice. But thats for later.
2) You cannot file 485 for your self till waiver is done if you take J-1. If you can wait for a couple of years for the GC (likely soon after retrogression is resolved) and then start residency, then you probably could just start on GC. But its a hard decision, as you dont know if you will get residency after this time or retrogression will resolve soon.
Its frustrating I understand.

Better choice, Make an advance tax payment, it would reduce the tax burden at the end, You may also get a refund.....
You can make the advance payment by getting an voucher and filling the details...., It need not be in both names, it can be just in your wife's name.
Again it doesn't matter how much you want to pay up...Pay like 3-4K per quarter and you are good...At the end of the year if you owe any additional amount you will pay it else if you made any extra payments you will get refund
All of it is just one single payment, Nothing to separate

nothing to worry about, it happened to me too,
I opened an SR and two weeks later my wife got FP and I didn't, I thought I'll wait for a week or two but in vain. When I gave a follow-up call I came to know that FP was scheduled at my Attorney's place (I live in west coast and I was scheduled to attend FP at ASC in East coast) and the twist is my attorney never received it.on top of it when I asked the Rep about possibility of scheduling an FP at my place she advised me to file AR-11 form, at this point it was very clear to me that Rep doesn't have a clue on what she is talking about. the very next day I was luck to get hold of nice rep who said I quote
" I don't understand why these people schedule FP at attorney�s location"
he apologized and said he will open an SR to reschedule at my location and he assured me that this time it will be at my location, which I got in couple of weeks.
Hope you will get your FP notice soon.

I also am thinking same. But since I had medical RFE, I am not expecting any more RFE at this point. Looking at my PD, it wouldbe another year or 2 in best case scenario to pickup the file and get over it. So if can get a break of 2-3 months between jobs,it would save me alot of tension and worry.
and if officer wanted EVL, he would had added a clause in my recent RFE.No point in going back to my file and saying. oh!! let me ask him EVL now that he is done with medicals. And if he does that it would be atleast an year or 2 if not later.
But then again, nobody can predict USCIS, but atleast I can be happy that I thought thru it and probability is very very slim of me getting hit by a bus on an intersection.

Can a 485 applicant that has an approved EAD and a ssn apply for a student loan or does one need to be a US citizen or Permanent resident to qualify for student loans from financial organizations like Bank of America? Does anybody know?

There are orgnizations that are opposed to this bill and are stronger than us. Only consistant efforts to make our voices heard would produce favorable results. We need letters comming from all members to these lawmakers so that when we lobby, these lawmakers already know that there are a lot of people who want this done and there is a broad support for such reforms.

I quit this company has he hasn't paid any bench salary and haven't do any proper marketing - which were force me choose a permanent job.
So could some one please advise me the right lawyer to handle this.I need to answer to this summons and need file a new case against them.
Points that summons contain :
FIRST COUNT : Breach of Contract
Second Count : Tortious Interference
Third Count : Breach of Duty of Good Faith and Fair Dealing
Fourth Count : Unjust Enrichment
Fifth Count :Misrepresentation and Fraud
